So uuuhhhh. It’s been awhile.

I couldn’t even begin to tell you where I’ve been or what I’ve been doing or what is preoccupying my mind of late. Mostly because 3 and a half months is a long time to cover, and the distance feels vast.

But where to pick up then?

It is 3 am on the morning of Christmas Eve, and things are quiet. Now is as good a time as any I suppose.

I’ve fallen out of love a bit with blogs lately. With my blog(s), with other blogs, with blogging in general. I was considering shutting up shop, when I got a lovely comment from Julia.

“perhaps you have found an exciting new life following your holiday, but in case you have just not felt motivated to write…. you should know people out there are reading”

Julia, if you are still reading this, a full month (almost to the day) after you commented, then thank you. Your comment came at the right time, right when I was thinking “What’s the point?”. And then I realized that there is no point to blogging except blogging itself, and that never stopped me before. So I decided not to give up on blogging just yet.  An eight year hobby deserves a better chance than that.

But it’s not just blogging that is falling to the wayside: I am not returning phone calls, not even picking up the phone most times. I don’t email back. I forget to text. It all just feels so….so…..not what I need right now.

What I do need is anyone’s guess. If you find it, can you let me know: a) what it is; b) where to find it; and c) if it costs much (because times are tight right now).

In the meantime, I will tell you what I have been busying myself with while I’ve been avoiding phone calls, emails, texts and this blog:

  • Yoga. (Specifically hot yoga.)
  • Swimming.
  • Running.
  • Gymming.
  • Work.
  • Taking my dog to the park.
  • Sleep.

So, as for an “exciting new life”,  Julia?  Not so much.

A quiet, serene, maybe too-boring-to-blog life?  Yes, maybe that.  Maybe just that.

I’ll be back before the end of the year with the year’s alphabet roundup, my own little blog’s traditional nod back to the year that just passed.  In the meantime, if you need to brush up: 20062007,20092010, 2011.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I say don’t try to name it. You just needed a break and there’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes we just need to focus on something else – and it sounds like exercise may have been what you needed (or need).

(I became somewhat bitter with photography and packed up my things. They collected dust until recently when I realized that I have an awesome new subject. So I do it a little at a time and it fills that void of capturing nothing at all.)

Your hiatus can last 3 months or a year, I’ll still be here to read when you get back to it. :)

Here is a poem by Nguyen Chi Thien that inspires me through those uncertain times:

“They exiled me to the heart of the jungle
Wishing to fertilise the manioc with my remains.
I turned into an expert hunter
And came out full of snake wisdom and rhino fierceness.

They sank me into the ocean
Wishing me to remain in the depths.
I became a deep sea diver
And came up covered with scintillating pearls.”

    Be fierce! Take care!

You know, I sincerely hope you write – and by that I don’t mean facebook, blogs and so on. You’ve a wonderful prose and ability to put your thoughts, your hopes, your desires and more down in black and white. That’s truly a gift to savour, Amanda…

I hope you do return. Maybe we’ll cross paths one day, seeing as I visit Amsterdam once a month. I can imagine the conversation; as you wistfully allow your mind, your thoughts to wander and drift like a flower floating down a little river.

Forgive me, I’m rambling now; but you get the gist, beautiful.

And here, watch my video and see what you think of it. I recorded the scenes while in Amsterdam before Christmas.

    Take care, you :)

    • Hello! What a lovely comment! So nice to come back to my blog and find after staying away from it for so long (neglecting it I guess). The video is taken down, though. Can you post another link?

      • Robert McMullen says:

You’re most welcome. You deserved the kudos (neglected or not) for the amazing ability to convey your thoughts and hopes from mind to the world wide web with an ease published writers, poets, and dreamers could only imagine and dream of.

I apologise about the video disappearing, as my youtube account was closed down due to the fact I ‘infringed’ on the copyrights of those downtrodden, super rich musicians. It’s just the dictatorship that is youtube doing its usual thing. I’ll have to upload it again, when I’ve opened a new account. I’ll let you know when.

        Anyway, welcome back, beautiful.

Hey, sorry about the delay with my video I wanted to show you, of your city.

I hope all is well with you, Amanda. Enjoy the video :)
